While I’m keeping a nafl (supererogatory) fast and someone invites me to eat while I’m fasting, am I allowed to break my fast? If so, do I need to make it up on another day?

Sayyidah Aysha (RA) narrats, “Both I and Hafsa (RA) were keeing a supererogatory fast when food was brought before us. We felt inclined to eat it, so we ate it. After that, afsa (RA) said to the Prophet (SAW), ‘O Messenger of Allah! Both of us were fasting while food was brought to us. We liked the food and ate it (and thus the fast was void).’ ‘Keep an expiatory fast in place of it on some other day.’ replied the Prophet (SAW).’”
